Brand New Headshots - Branding through Photography
A new client Howett Thorpe Recruitment called me the other week asking about getting all their staff photographed for their new website. Just up my street, so we arranged to meet and talk over exactly what they wanted. Essentially the business is looking to update their website and explore a more expansive marketing strategy.
The discussion revolved around headshots and the type and style that would suit their new website. This discussion then circled one of my areas of interest, that being the over use of stock photography.
Headshots are often seen as a separate issue to the photographs used on a website to illustrate a business, but I think they fall into the same pot. It's about building a visual bridge of trust with the people visiting your site and a visual theme.
This is something which I believe many businesses miss out on; that being one of the biggest assets is the staff. In practical terms people do business with people, not businesses. It is the personal interaction that drives a sale, a contract, a purchase and I am convinced that websites showcasing the actual business and the real staff get better responses.
I am going to soon follow up on this post with a series discussing how personalised photography is more important than many people realise. I think people should invest more in the photography used to promote themselves and their business. Over the last week or so I have photographed people in business in different ways so I'll follow up also with some other examples.
But for now here is the Howett Thorpe shoot.
The day involved people coming into the studio, all to be photographed in the same way and I have to say that when it comes to seeing a close knit team Howett Thorpe are on top of their game. The whole day was fun, in no small part due to the camaraderie between everyone. There may have been some nervous and wary subjects but it was all diluted by laughter.
If you would like to discuss anything from a single headshot to give your LinkedIn profile a punch, to all your staff being photographed or storyboard narrative promotional photos of your business, please get in touch.
