It’s all for the Bronze!
Bronze traditionally means third place, but there is nothing but first when it comes to Nicola Godden’s sculptures. These are the latest I recently photographed having been introduced to Nicola’s fantastic creations four years ago. Icarus has become something of a creative obsession with the largest I photographed in the studio well over 2m high.
This time they all displayed nicely on a table top with one breaking the theme, the Bone sulpture and an Icurus with a difference, Icarus Rising, a highly dramatic version.
Nicola was keen to have them photographed against a dark background which I think works well and sets them off nicely.
The colours change according to the light and the pieces can take on a slighly different feel. The garden installations will convey a range of viewing experiences depending on the sun and clouds, morning and evening light and I suspect somehing else under a crisp clean moon.
I don’t get to photograph all of Nicola’s work, it’s not always timely or practical, so it is disappointing to miss some of her incredible sculptures but when I do get my lights and lenses on them, it is always a pleasure.
