When you’re not actually there for your headshot!
‘It’s behind you!’
Sometimes you want somehing behind you, but you can’t be there to be in front. Or what you want behind you is in the next room. Or in AALTO’s case, the next hanger.
I was onboarded with AALTO to provide photography and the first call to action was some of the Executive Leadership Team, others to follow but the brief was to have them in the hanger, but not in the hanger.
AALTO are at the forefront of their field, or should I say sky. They are way out there on the horiizon inventing, designing, building and flying an amazing aircraft. The mother of drones with a wingspan of 25m capable of reaching altitudes around 60,000 feet.
‘Enabling stratospheric Earth observation and connectivity capabilities with the world-leading, world-record-breaking Zephyr High Altitude Platform Station (HAPS)’
Check them out because this kind of amazing innovation and technology being developed and built here in the UK should be celebrated. Visit via the announcement for Hughes Boulnois taking the Helm, or maybe that’s the Control Tower.

Back to the story though!
OK, compositing portraits or headshots to backgrounds is hardly new but with AALTO we couldn’t and can’t ‘just shoot’ in the hanger, so the plan from the outset was to shoot against white and drop in the hanger photo in post.
Everyone was photographed like this:
CEO, Hughes Boulnois
I was supplied with a previously shot photo of the hanger which had been extensively prepared (It’s a huge space so a quick mop and brush wouldn’t cut it and setting out for composition wasn’t a five minute job!) and left to compose and fit with my headshots.
These are some of the results:
Taz Esmail, CFO
Andrew Ness, Strategy, M&A, and Business Transformation
Hughes Boulnois, CEO
So if you’re worried about your background, maybe we can change it for something that adds and enhances your story.
