Planning Business Portraits for Marketing Purposes - Branding through Photography
Another aspect of business photography is thinking about the end use. That doesn't mean that every photo is made with a specific intention, clearly photos can offer multiple use and multiple messages, but it is sometimes helpful to consider how the photo will be employed.
With portraits the headshot or profile photo tends to fill the frame, but even a slight move away from the traditional headshot opens up questions about the purpose.
In an environmental situation, taking in the surroundings adds all sorts of elements to the photo, for example, a work environment may convey the subject's line of business. Without props though, the studio still only portrays the subject. In this case with Martine, I wanted to provide the opportunity to use the image with integrated text. Since I was using a textured background it was necessary to create space at the outset.
It's a small move but trickier to fix at a later date.
The purpose of these photos is to give Martine material to promote herself. Providing 'one on one' executive coaching as well as 'business team coaching' Martine understands the importance of individual identity, as a leader and as a team player. Martine's brand is very much her own personality so the potential to promote herself was important.
So we looked at both filling the frame and leaving space for text messages.
